Course Summary:

Direct composite restorations are among the most frequently performed restorative procedures, yet dental practitioners often struggle with placement techniques, achieving consistent interproximal contacts, and managing postoperative sensitivity.

Several key elements determine the success of direct composite restorations, including tooth preparation, material selection, placement technique, and curing methods.

This course will guide participants through each of these critical elements, helping them understand how to make informed decisions about which materials, systems, and techniques are best suited for direct composite restorations.

Breaking down each step of the procedure, participants will learn important criteria to evaluate materials and align them with their preferred clinical techniques. The goal is to equip practitioners with the knowledge to achieve aesthetic, functional, and long-lasting restorations that result in asymptomatic and satisfied patients.

This course is designed specifically for Dental & Oral Health Therapists and focuses on mastering both posterior (Class II) and anterior composite resin restorations.

By the end of the day, participants will have ready-to-use tips and tricks that can be immediately applied in their clinical practice, improving both efficiency and patient outcomes in posterior and anterior restorations.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of the course, participants will:

  • Understand how to perform conservative tooth preparations for anterior and posterior composite restorations.
  • Master the selection of materials and use of adhesive systems tailored for specific clinical scenarios.
  • Learn how to apply incremental layering techniques to achieve ideal contours and minimise polymerisation shrinkage.
  • Learn how to use matrix systems for optimal interproximal contacts in posterior restorations.
  • Gain practical tips for light curing techniques, including proper angles and curing times for achieving strength and reducing post-operative sensitivity.
  • Learn how to efficiently finish and polish composite restorations for natural-looking results.
